In addition, with the Onkyo Remote 2 individual zones of a multi-zone configuration individually drive for playback. Now available as a free download, it offers the app as a convenient remote control for owners of Onkyo home cinema and hi-fi systems, not least because of the easy access to frequently used functions:

Already, the TX-SR309 is equipped for its price range with good connections. Even a USB terminal is not missing. The TX-NR609 offers considerably more HDMI ports, Ethernet / Internet capability, and the Onkyo Universal Port. He also has two subwoofer outputs. Hardly something we miss in the two identically equipped Onkyo's great. Plenty of HDMI terminals, 2 x USB, and are multi-zone capability here of course.

The TX-SR309 little is equipped with all the elemental, but neither has nor calibration system with video capabilities. Also, there is no Internet/ Network Features. Here is a big leap to the TX-NR609 - with various Internet audio services, certificate DLNA 1.5 for audio streaming, video upconversion to 1080p scaling and 4k are offered a variety of modern features. Even the menu screen is different from the small model, and including in German language only. The TX-NR609 also features a THX Select 2 certification, and he brings with as calibration system Audyssy 2EQ. Also, Audyssey DSX and Dolby PLIIz are the 609 already on board. The two big AVRs have Audyssey MultEQ XT to a higher valent measuring and Room EQ system and bring a more comprehensive compared to the 609 video-EQ and complex video chip. ISF also added two picture modes (Day and Night). The TX-NR1009 has nine stages and a further decoder DTS Neo: X with it. For the three models, there is NO charge both an iPhone / iPod Touch as well as an Android app.

Sound

All four Onkyo AVRs sound for that price range very well. Already, the TX-SR309 is level-set, sounds clear and has good momentum. For small and medium-sized listening rooms of up to around 25 square meters you can use it perfectly. Especially for film sound, he is very good, he creates it already, tonal components cleanly separated from each other and build a good backdrop. Even in stereo mode, its acoustic abilities are neat.

More can be expected from the TX-NR609. He is a little firmer than the level TX-SR309, although here the jump is not as large as the TX-NR609 fails on the TX-NR809. The TX-SR309 in the high frequency sounds more dynamic and somewhat velvety, also is the transition from the high-liquid in the midrange.

The overall sound is conclusive in itself, especially pronounced in the spatial surround area. In stereo mode operates the tx-nr609 sounds smoother and more powerful. A significant leap, not only from the price perspective but also from acoustic, can be made with the TX-NR809. The tx-nr809 is also in large listening rooms well over 30 square feet of right, because very powerful and strong partner level. Should the connection of such copies without the support of a powered subwoofer, if one has some level claims, TX-SR309 avoid and TX-NR609 more - it also provides for large front speakers enough power. The TX-NR809 in detail in comparison to the TX-NR609 much finer and plays a total of adult, mature - which is also expressed in more subtle and more deep-tiered structure in the bass. The TX-NR1009 is for purely phonetic point of view no jump forward. Only if one uses all nine built-in amplifiers and then DTS Neo: X enabled, acoustic tricks are possible, the TX-NR809 also can not provide: the sound surrounds the listener in a 360 degree panorama, which is staggering in the horizontal and in the vertical sensitivity and the overall sense of space is very tight. In stereo mode, tx-nr809 and tx-nr1009 operate on an identical level and open up thanks to an authentic, lively play with a very stable platform also experienced stereo headphones listening pleasure.

Video

The TX-SR309 has no video capabilities, grinds through HDMI signals only 1:1. Already, the TX-NR609 but can convert incoming HDMI signal up to 1080p, and has done very well for the price league. The large models TX-NR809 and TX-NR1009 have a more complex video chip that almost no steps de-interlaced and scaled up with virtually no detectable scaling noise up to 1080p. The picture stability is noticeably quieter than the TX-NR609, also in the high frequency range image are shown more details.

Conclusion

All four Onkyo will find buyers. Who does not have a large budget and want to listen in a small to medium sized listening room in good quality music and movies goes, awarded with the cheap TX-SR309. However, may not have high demands on the equipment. Those looking for more features, a sophisticated sound and very good video capabilities, and perhaps already has a proper home cinema room is available, can pick up the TX-NR609. The buyer, who works with a maximum of 7.2 Configuration and a "small cars" like that has all the modern features and sounds very fine, takes the TX-NR809, which is moreover also very high volume levels and has a great video section. High-tech friends who are planning to set up a 9.2 Setup and the convenience of the new DTS Neo: To use X access to the TX-NR1009.

Onkyo Android App + iPhone / iPod Touch App

Android App

iPhone / iPod Touch App

Onkyo adopts a dual approach and enthusiasm to the majority of smartphone users: In addition to an iPhone / iPod Touch app in Apple's iTunes Store now also available from August in the Android Market Android phone available. We have looked at both free apps.

It is important in both cases that the iPhone / iPod Touch or the Android-based smartphone is logged in the same network as the AV receiver from Onkyo. Is compatible with all the Android phone network in 2011 Onkyo AV receivers (such as with the models TX-NR609 or Onkyo TX-NR1009). We have already tested the app just before the official availability and are very excited about the possibilities. A special highlight - the bottom of the menu bar, the familiar green Android males with a note, choose this option, you can stream stored on the Android mobile music to Onkyo AVR - a really successful added value. The same is not possible with the iTunes app. The streaming worked with our HTC sensation excellent, trouble free and easy. If one uses the excellent Music Optimizer Onkyo the year 2011 (as in the test report of the Onkyo TX-NR1009), we get a vivid, well structured and spatial sound with powerful, accurate bass, but at the same time. The other features of the Android app: volume control, input source selection, control of treble, bass, center level and subwoofer level. Access onto the navigation setup, including virtual navigation cross, accessing the home menu. Graphically, the app is solved very nicely and looks even dignified than the iPhone / iPod Touch app.

TEST : Onkyo 7.2 AV Receiver TX-NR609 (Conclusion)

Conclusion

Onkyo manages time and again to surprise us - the 60X-AVR series can already inspired several generations of innovation and high performance at a low purchase price, and the TX-NR609 is again very clear standard in the 600 EUR League: network capacity with music streaming and Internet radio platforms, direct connection from iPhone / iPod, Qdeo video chip plus video-EQ, excellent level accuracy and smoother sound for astonishment at the testers. The excellent connection assembly and the high quality workmanship come to a definite plus. The final test result is positive impression from the preview only continue. The video section is presented with the new Qdeo chip in AV receivers in this price range as the clear scale. The steadiness is very high, trembling object edges and excessively strong steps to looking in vain. Sharpness and detail resolution are top, the Onkyo TX-NR609 pulls out from the low-resolution SD material, which is to get out, a great performance. With the new timelessly elegant look Onkyo also meets the mark, and is divided into an uncompromising domestic AV rack. Thanks to excellent acoustic properties, for the price range do not necessarily usual multimedia features and opulent features of the TX-NR609 is our decision not on the test predicate difficult.

+ Strong and dynamic acoustic

+ Excellent upconversion of SD signals

+ DLNA streaming and access to Internet radio

+ Chic, timeless look

+ Solid build quality

TEST : Onkyo 7.2 AV Receiver TX-NR609 (Competitive comparison)

Competitive Comparison

Onkyo TX-SR608 : solid acoustic characteristics with a pronounced fine dynamics and level reserves brought the TX-SR608 is already out of the last generation. excellent video section of the TX-NR609 can not be produced but the 608 network features such as access to vTuner Internet Radio and DLNA also brought the 608 still does not. Visually we like the new timeless design also better.

Denon AVR-1911 : The Denon also offers iPod connectivity and playback of audio files from a USB stick, but no DLNA streaming and access to Internet radio. Regarding the Upconverion also offers the Denon already solid performance, all with the steadiness of the Onkyo can not keep up with ABT-chip of which Qdeo offers more HD-feeling. Acoustic shows in 1911 powerfully harmonious spatial setting and tight bass response, the significant fine dynamics and the resolution in the high frequency range is achieved only with difficulty from Denon. The AVR-1911 is now the market prices for the 400 available at EUR.
